Vikings beat Giants on Greg Joseph’s 61-yard Christmas miracle

The Vikings are now at 11-0 in one-score matches this season. The latest came in Christmas miracle fashion when Greg Joseph made a 61-yard field-goal as time expired to lift Minnesota over New York Giants 27-24.

The 61-yarder is a record for the Vikings and gives them a 12-3 record with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. The Giants are now at 8-7-1. They still hope to secure a playoff spot in NFC.

Justin Jefferson’s record-breaking catch that placed Minnesota at the Giants’ 42 yard line with just seconds remaining on the clock would have prevented Joseph from setting a record field goal.

Jefferson ran 17 yards for the first down on 3rd-and-11 after catching a screen. It was his 12th catch and 123rd of this season. This broke Cris Carter’s record of 122 receptions in one season. He also broke Randy Moss’s franchise record for receiving yards per season.

Cousins hit Jefferson on 3rd-and-9 of the ensuing drive for a first down. Then, on 3rd and 11, after Cousins had taken a sack to Jefferson, Jefferson made the big play that set Joseph up for the 61 yarder.

Tight end T.J. Hockenson threw 13 passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns in Minnesota. Jefferson finished with 12 catches, 133 yards, and a touchdown. He now has 123 catches for 1,756 yard and eight touchdowns.
