Medford, the largest city in southern Oregon, is home to a variety of gems. These include culinary highlights and outdoor opportunities.
Medford is located in the heart of Rogue Valley. Here visitors will find a world-class vineyard country. The Rogue Valley Wine Country is unique due to its location between the Siskiyou and Cascade mountain ranges in Southern Oregon. This allows for a warm 9-month growing season with one the largest diurnal temperatures swings in the world. This is why so many varieties can be produced. It also makes it possible to enjoy an outdoor playground that offers plenty of activities to go with your wine country experience.
There are many Sipping and tasting rooms, as well as culinary options to match. TheRogue Valley Wine Country has over 6,000 acres of vines, 80 wineries and produces 70 varieties. Wine Enthusiast Magazine recently named Rogue Valley the WORLD’S BEST WINES REGION! Wine Enthusiast has also nominated Troon Vineyard in Rogue Valley for Winery of Year.
Perhaps the region’s long history with great food can be attributed to Harry and David, a world-renowned produce grower who also supplies gift baskets. The Flagship Harry and David store is located in the town, and the farms and orchards of the company are nearby.
Rogue Creamery, located 2 miles north of Medford in Central Point is won the World’s Best Cheese in Italy in 2019. This is the first time that a U.S. creamery has received this honor.
The Rogue River is a popular destination for whitewater rafters from all over the world. Medford is an excellent place to start exploring Oregon’s only national parks, Crater lake, which is the country’s deepest.
Another draw is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. It boasts some the most impressive outdoor theaters in the country.
