Tight End CJ Dippre Commits to Alabama
The Alabama Crimson Tide CJ Dippre, a former Maryland tight end, will be joining the incoming class as a high-profile transfer.
Dippre, who is finishing his sophomore year with the Terrapins, had 30 receptions for 314 yards, three touchdowns and finished the 2022 season in the top five among Maryland’s receivers. He was accompanied by Taulia Tagovailoa (the younger brother of former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and former Crimson Tide offensive director Mike Locksley).
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound tight end from Scranton (Penn.) chose between Alabama or Ohio State.
Dippre’s commitment to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide is a significant one. Cameron Latu, the current tight end starter, will play his final game against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. He will then turn his attention to the Senior Bowl, and the 2023 NFL Draft.
Dippre will compete with Robbie Ouzts and Miles Kitselman, as well as Amari Niblack, after Latu’s departure.
Dippre will have to compete against Ty Lockwood, a four star recruit who is one the best players in Tennessee and a top-15 tightend in the country.
The tight end is the most important position among all offensive positions. There is no clear successor for Latu. The redshirt senior will take the majority of snaps. However, the Sugar Bowl reserves will also be important, if they play any significant amount.
