Texas A&M’s recent wins include taking two of three games from No. 10 Georgia two weeks ago, then two of three again against No. 3 Arkansas last weekend. It also beat No. 15 Texas State and No. 25 Dallas Baptist during that stretch. This success has helped the Aggies climb from an early-season hole. They’re now 25-14 overall and 10-8 in the conference, which is two games back of Arkansas for first place in the SEC West.
Vanderbilt won both its previous conference series, winning two of the three games it played against Kentucky and Florida over the past two weekends. The Commodores’ record is up to 28-11 and 9-9 against SEC opponents. They are currently in third place in SEC East.
Texas A&M’s Friday evening starter Nathan Dettmer is coming into this game after two great performances in his previous two starts. The sophomore righty pitched eight innings against Georgia and picked up nine strikeouts. He then went on to allow just one earned run and three hits against Arkansas in five innings last week. He is now 4-2 with a 3. 38 He has a 3.
Vanderbilt’s junior righty Chris McElvain will be countering. McElvain just completed a seven-inning no hitter against Kentucky in which he struck out nine batters. He is 5-2 with a 3. 52 ERA in 2022.
