TCU’s Sonny Dykes Jabs SEC Schools Over Nonconference Schedules

TCUSonny Dykes, coach, praised his team for navigating the difficult Big 12 schedule and making it to the College Football Playoff.

He did so by destroying the powerful Southeastern Conference.

Dykes spoke out at a news conference ahead of Saturday’s CFP national semifinal match at Fiesta Bowl. He highlighted the challenges of a schedule that saw his team play 11 consecutive weeks, from Sept. 24 through Dec. 3. He then compared that schedule to the SEC, which has teams often scheduling an FCS opponent late into the season.

Dykes stated, “In the Big 12, it’s not possible to play an out of-conference like the SEC in Week 10.” Dean Straka of 247 Sports. “You won’t catch The Citadel in Week 10. Texas was caught. This is just the way our league works. It is a challenge to do your best and it can take a toll on your team. It was hard to make it through nine consecutive conference games. We were also beat up.

If TCU can defeat No. Dykes and his team may have the chance to show their skills against the SEC at the sport’s most prestigious stage. Georgia, the SEC champion, is ranked No. The nation’s No. 1 is a 6 1/2 point favorite over No. 4 Ohio State in the other CFP semifinal.
