Ryan Phillippe commemorates his longest stretch of sobriety

“Feeling thankful for the freedom that comes with breaking addictions,” the actor wrote on Instagram.
In a recent post on his Instagram, the I Know What You Did Last Summer actor commemorated his longest stretch of sobriety since his youth.
“Officially the longest I’ve gone since I was a teen without some kind of nicotine or marijuana in my system(among other things…),” the 49-year-old wrote. “Feeling thankful for the freedom that comes with breaking addictions and dependency on substance. Sobriety, clarity, and spiritual connectedness feels real good.”
In an Instagram story sharing the post, he joked, “My only remaining addictions are toothpicks & self-improvement.”
This year, Phillippe appeared in two films: The Locksmith with Kate Bosworth and Ving Rhames, and Miranda’s Victim with Abigail Breslin, Luke Wilson, and Kyle MacLachlan. He also made a brief appearance in the music video for 100 gecs’ “The Most Wanted Person in the United States.” He’s attached to several projects that are in development, including Kalahari, Saint Clare, Alive, and One Mile.
Phillippe has also been open about his experience with depression. In 2016, he said, “I’m a lot more at peace than I was when I was younger… I struggled much more with depression when I was in my 20s and 30s. I think the amount of reading that I’ve done, the work on myself and the ways that I’ve found to cope are healthier than when I was younger.”
