Netflix’s ‘Lupin’ season 3 teases an ‘unexpected return’
The ghosts of the past are always close at hand. Watch Omar Sy in first look at upcoming third season of the French-language series, which became a hit in the U.S.
Lupin is ready to steal our attention for a third time.
As part of its TUDUM fan event on Saturday, Netflix released a first look (below) at season 3 of the French-language heist thriller, which stars Omar Sy as Assane Diop, a thief who has fashioned himself as the 21st century Arsene Lupin, the gentleman cambrioleur depicted in Maurice Leblanc’s mystery novels. The season 2 finale saw Assane get his revenge on Hubert Pellegrini, Herve Pierre’s father. Pellegrini is last seen in a squad car, admitting to some of his crimes. Diop, who is wanted for other offenses, then skips out of town, vowing to return one day. According to Netflix, Assane is now in hiding and “must be able to live far away from his wife and son” when the action resumes. “With all the pain they have to endure, Assane decides to return home to Paris to make them crazy proposals: leave France and start a new existence elsewhere. However, the ghosts from the past are always nearby and Assane’s plans will be thrown into disarray by an unexpected return. (And don’t worry, fan-favorite pooch J’accuse is also back for Part 3. )
After season 2 aired in summer 2021, EW asked Sy (whose work on the series earned a spot on EW’s Best Performances of 2021 list) if Assane was done with his revenge plot. The actor stated that the plot is not complete. He’s done most the work, but it’s still not complete. When episode 10 finished, there’s still some questions that we didn’t have answered. “
Sy also teased a wider cast of characters in his inner circle of gentleman thieves: “When you read through the books, Lupin has many accomplices. He had Benjamin as his one accomplice, but he needed people so he hires them, just like he did with Philippe Courbet. It was very interesting to have that. It’s going to be even more fun if there is a large cast of people. The thing is that you can’t do everything alone. You need others. It is also his talent to bring people along. It was great to play with that. I think it’s a good aspect of Lupin. ”
The premiere date for Lupin season 3 has yet to be announced. You can watch the trailer above.
