Joni Mitchell to perform her first concert in 20 years

Washington’s Gorge Amphitheatre is set to create paradise and host a Joni Mitchell show.

No need to feel blue anymore, Joni Mitchell fans: The legendary singer-songwriter will soon return to the stage for her first official concert in 20 years.

Fellow musician and collaborator Brandi Carlile announced Mitchell’s forthcoming performance, which will be held next June at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Wash., when she dropped by The Daily Show on Wednesday. In the two-day concert event, titled Echoes in the Canyon, Carlile will play on June 9, while Mitchell and her backup band, the Joni Jam, will perform on June 10.

“Joni is a performer and loves it,” Carlile said to host Trevor Noah .. “She’s as good at it now than she was ever. “

After Newport, Joni stated that she wanted to do another show. Carlile explained that she said, “I want to play again.” “We started to think about it and decided on the Gorge in Washington State as our venue. We would love to play there. It’s one the most beautiful venues in all of the world. ”

If your brain is currently melting over this news, rest assured that you are not alone: Carlile is equally excited about seeing Mitchell, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight after suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015, take the stage again.

“No one’s been able to buy a ticket to see Joni Mitchell play in 20 years, so this is enormous,” she said. “And she’s so thrilled, because it’s near Canada and some her Canadian fans. It’s amazing, but it’s happening and she will crush it. If you’re capable of getting there, go for it.

Carlile remains mesmerized by Mitchell’s set this past summer. She said, “I still can’t believe that happened.” It was only a few months ago, I know. It was at Newport Folk Festival, which has such a historic and monumental place… She always has plans. Even if she doesn’t say it, she knows what she wants to accomplish.

The artist also said she was surprised that Mitchell decided to sing lead on a medley of her timeless hits — including “Both Sides Now,” “Carey,” “Help Me,” and “Big Yellow Taxi” — when she joined them on stage.

” We rehearsed the songs and didn’t know if we should stop or what to do next, so we just sang along with her,” Carlile stated. “And then, it turned out, she took over the show, and became the performer we all know she is. “

Representatives of Mitchell did not immediately reply to EW’s request for comment. Watch Carlile talk about the upcoming concert and her love for the artists she has admired in the video above.
