Everything That Georgia Tech President Angel Cabrera said today

Georgia Tech president Angel Cabrera gave a statement following the changes in the athletic department

Georgia Tech president Angel Cabrera held a press conference today after the firings of head football coach Geoff Collins and athletic director Todd Stansbury. Here’s what Cabrera had a to say after today’s press conference.

” As you all know, yesterday I announced that Todd Stansbury (our athletic director) and Geoff Collins (our head football coach) were being fired. This was a difficult but necessary decision. Both of them deserve my deepest appreciation, especially for their dedication to our student athletes and our program. Todd’s unwavering dedication to student-athletes’ success is something I want to remember. His commitment to our unique total person approach to athletics as well as his love for our university are what truly make him a hero. “

“Ultimately though, results have not been there and a new approach is necessary to return our program to where it belongs. Our student-athletes should have the opportunity to compete at a high level. The loyal Yellow Jacket fan base that has stood by this team through all of its trials. Expects and deserves better. These student-athletes who give so much and dedicate so much to the program only get so many years to learn and grow with us on and off the field. We owe it our players and their families to provide them with an athletics program and a college experience they can be proud of. “

“Georgia Tech has a competitive environment. In everything we do, we aim to be as competitive as the best universities in the nation. Most people know that we are proud to be one the top public universities in the country. We are ranked among the top academic universities in many categories. On the research side, we are the number one university in research expenditures among those without a medical school and we are top 20 overall. This is something we are proud of. “

“Athletics does not differ. We strive to be the best in all that we do. We have made these changes because we want to be the best. Our athletes, coaches, and program will benefit from a new leadership team. A new chance to win. I will do whatever it takes to get our program back to where it belongs. One of the best programs in the country, and one of the best conferences. “

“In just a moment, Frank Neville will be your interim director of athletics. He will share more information about our plans to recruit leaders that we believe will revitalize our program. Brent Key will be speaking on his interim role as head coach. I can tell that Brent Key is focused on leading the team towards a win. I am grateful to them both for their willingness to step up to their call. My current focus is to find the next athletic director and to provide the resources necessary to turn this program around. “

” Before I leave, I want to make it clear that I am committed to building and maintaining an elite athletic program. Most people know that I am a proud Georgia Tech alum. I am married to a Georgia Tech alum. I am the father of a Georgia Tech alum. I am a Georgia Tech alum. This is something that is very personal to me. “

” I believe in this team and am one of its biggest supporters. I will actually be traveling with the team to Pittsburgh with the coach. I will be there Saturday and every day cheering on the Yellow Jackets. I look forward to seeing you all there. Follow us on social media to get the latest news from Georgia Tech Athletics.
