Deion Sanders Preparing to Leave JSU for Colorado After SWAC Title Game
Deion will reportedly leave Jackson State to become the next Colorado head coach, according ESPN’s Pete Thamel .
Sources have indicated to Sports Illustrated over the past few days that they expect Sanders to land in Colorado, barring any change of direction from Sanders. Sources also stated that they didn’t expect anything to be announced until Saturday’s SWAC championship match. Recent conversations started to heat up. Per Thamel,
Sanders spent the week with his associates picking potential members for his Colorado on-field and support staff.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer also spoke with a prominent player in the NCAA transfer portal and encouraged him to delay making his decision due to the possibility that Sanders was headed to Boulder.
Sanders will be the coach of the Tigers against Southern University in SWAC championship game. This is because Jackson State is chasing its second consecutive conference championship. According to Thamel, Colorado’s support staff had been working to prepare information for Sanders to accept the position and all signs point towards Sanders arriving in Boulder this weekend.
Thamel said that the program’s staff have not been notified.
On Monday’s SWAC conference call, Sanders revealed that Colorado had indeed offered him a job . According to Thamel, it appears that Sanders will accept the job within the next 48 hours.
Sanders made the Tigers one of the most popular teams in the country. He led Jackson State to a 26-5 mark in three seasons and went 22-2 in the last two campaigns.
