Danica McKellar reveals ’80s love triangle with Candace Cameron Bure

Young stars from The Wonder Years, Full House, and Growing Pains had an awkward romantic crossover.

Danica McKellar is looking back on her own personal wonder years and revealing that she got caught up in a surprising love triangle with two other teen stars in the late ’80s.

“So in 1989, I believe it was, there was this party that a teen magazine was putting on and Jeremy Miller, who was also a young actor, he was at this party,” McKellar recalled. “I was there, and Candace was there. And [Miller] asked me to be his girlfriend. And I was like, ‘Yes!’ And I didn’t know at the time, but I guess Candace thought that she and Jeremy were dating.”

All three actors made waves in the late 1980s and early ’90s, as Full House, The Wonder Years, and Miller’s Growing Pains all aired during the same period. Bure also appeared in two episodes of Growing Pains alongside Miller, in 1987 and 1988.

Fortunately, it doesn’t sound like there are any hard feelings about the love triangle. “It’s so silly,” McKellar said. “I mean, we were so young. We were like 13 years old. So this was not any kind of serious relationship we’re talking about.” (Reps for Bure and Miller didn’t immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.)

That said, McKellar was caught off guard when she finally got the full picture. “I found out years later,” she said. “On Dancing With the Stars, I found out that [Bure] was like, ‘Oh, we were dating. I was like, ‘What?’ So, Jeremy, tsk-tsk, not good. But luckily my friendship with Candace has survived just fine.”

McKellar and Bure, now longtime pals, went on to star in the 1990 TV movie Camp Cucamonga together, alongside Jennifer Aniston. They also both competed on Dancing With the Stars in 2014. McKellar came in sixth place, while Bure finished third.
