Dallas Cowboys Rookie TE Jake Ferguson on ‘Awesome’ TD; ‘Ready’ For More vs. Lions
Regarding announcing oneself to the NFL, Jake Ferguson, the Dallas Cowboys’ rookie tight end, did it right.
On Sunday night against the Eagles, the 23-year-old caught his first touchdown after a superb move to evade two defenders as Dallas fell 26-17 to Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field. Despite the loss, Ferguson praised his “welcome into the NFL moment” and said that it was something he had practiced throughout the week.
” “It was amazing,” Ferguson stated. “Lining up for the play, I was like, “Alright, it was mine. It was something we had practiced a few times last week and I wanted to grab the ball. I admit, I almost blacked out as I ran across the goal line. “
Ferguson was a hit with fans. Filling in for the injured Dalton Schultz, many think the rookie could usurp the soon-to-be free agent in 2023.
Tight end controversy anyone?
Ferguson caught four passes (three of which were for first downs) for 40 yards and his touchdown, taking his tally to 60 yards on seven receptions in 2022. Previously, the Cowboys offense used sparingly. Schultz was injured on Sunday night so Ferguson got to stretch his legs in offense. Kellen Moore, the Cowboys’ coordinator, may need to get Ferguson more involved. Maybe starting with the 4-2 Dak Preston-returning Cowboys, which will host the 1-4 Lions ..

“I guess it’s more of just being ready,” Ferguson said. Opportunities will come in both the pass and run game. If my number is called, and I’m in the huddle to make it happen, I must do my best. Spoken like a true team member.
His snap count will likely decrease with Schultz’s hopeful return (and amid media gossip about tight end trade ideas), but Jake Ferguson isn’t a name we will forget in a hurry.
His performance on the field will ensure that.
