California DL Deijon Lafitte Talks Surging Recruitment

Ontario (Calif.), defensive lineman Deijon Lfitte is hotter than any other recruit in the country at the moment. Lafitte discusses the recent recruiting surge with Sports Illustrated All-American. He has received multiple offers from major Power Five companies.

” The beginning of my recruitment process was slow,” Lafitte described the experience. “You know, I was getting quite a few looks but I wasn’t as well developed as I was back then. Many coaches told me what they wanted to see in my film so I decided to work on all they said. They saw my film last year and this year, and they all started pulling the trigger. “

Lafitte’s senior season tape made it seem more real over the summer. He has received numerous offers from USC, Washington, and Tennessee in recent weeks.

” It meant a lot, especially from Coach Harvey and coach Nua,” Lafitte stated about receiving an offer from the Trojans. “They also told me that I was a diamond among the rough. Everyone said that California didn’t have any big d-linemen. So they found me

and gave me the opportunity to play at USC.

Lafitte made quick trips to campus to visit the Trojans. He had a “great time.” “

” What I liked most about the visit was the culture and atmosphere,” Lafitte stated. “You know coach Nua, I could see he would get on his players, and even though they made a good play, he wanted greatness from his

guys. They make a great play and then they say, “Okay, next play, I want another big one.” I have learned that a coach who is constantly on you and has high expectations can make a great player. “

Another PAC-12 school to recently enter the mix is Washington, and he likes the Huskies early on.

” “I have a good relationship to the coaches,” he said about the Huskies. “Coach Schmidt, Inge and my Fresno offer were the first to give me. I have had a good relationship for the past two years. They like my versatility, as I am a big man that can move laterally and can play any position on d-line. They like that they can do many things with me in their multiple schemes. “

” The message was that they liked how I dominate the line of scrimmage, and how I play like an authentic defensive lineman,” Lafitte stated about the message from the Vols. They like that I’m physical, cause havoc, and like to clog gaps. They saw that all, and my measurables caught their attention. “

Tennessee extending his first SEC offer to him was a big deal as well.

“It meant a lot to me, because my dream is for the league to come true,” Lafitte stated about the Vols making him his first SEC offer. “The SEC is the closest thing to that. So when I received the call that they would welcome me into their program if it was my desire to go there, it meant so much. The SEC is one step closer to my dream of being a professional athlete. “

While Lafitte has had the opportunity to play under great coaches all across the country, Rodney Garner’s resume caught his eye.

“It is clear that this coach is someone you would love to play for and be developed by,” Lafitte said about the possibility of playing under a coach like Garner. He is a man you would love to be able to play for. He does it year after year. He is a coach who can help me realize my dreams. This comes with work. He won’t just put you out to get you out there. He will make you work for what you want. “

Lafitte is currently scheduled to visit Boise State on October. He plans to take it slow, wait to see if any other people are interested, then plan visits later in fall, before making a decision between now December and December.

Lafitte has a plan to make the right choice as he navigates through the recruitment process.

” My parents have a huge impact on my decision and they really care about academics now,” Lafitte stated about how he plans for the process. “Really, I’m looking for a school that supports me academically and has a solid foundation. If that school is able to support my plans, which are to major in Business or Real State, then that is my home. “
