Bill Belichick Reacts to Final Play in Loss vs. Raiders
There are three seconds left in regulation on Sunday. The score is tied at 24.PatriotsTheRaidersRhamondre Stephenson, New England’s running back, took a handoff for a draw play that seemed to be destined to go to overtime.
Stevenson made a tackle and entered Las Vegas territory. However, he threw the ball back to Jakobi Meyers on an lateral before being tackled. The Patriots suddenly looked like they were trying to pull off miracle plays to win the game in regulation, rather than taking it to overtime.
Meyers grabbed the ball and tried throwing it across the field to Mac Jones. The ball was instead seized by ex-Patriot Chandler Jones who ran over Mac Jones to grab it and took it to Las Vegas to win the game. stunning fashion, 30-24.
Bill Belichick, Patriots coach, was asked about the play following the game and, as usual, played it coy.
“The play didn’t work.” Belichick stated. “Made an error on that play…we’ve discussed situational football. It’s something we have discussed every week. We have to do a better job.
Belichick responded by pressing on the play and the loss. continued harping on mistakes.
“We must try to correct all the mistakes that we made.” We all have to do it.”
The Patriots finished the season at 7-7. Out of a wild-card slot with the loss. New England may be looking back at their playoff position (or lack thereof) at the season’s conclusion and kicking themselves for the inexplicable decision that cost them the game.
